Important Information Regarding Dental Insurance Benefits:
It important to note their is a great difference between dental insurance plans and medical insurance plans. Dental benefits are not determined by the insurance company, but rather the plan your employer negotiates with the insurance company. Your employer determines the benefit level offered to their employees.
Most plans have a deductible (typically ranging from $50 to $100), which the policy holder must pay before the insurance company will make any payments. Each plan pays a specific percentage of the cost based on type of treatment: preventive (hygiene, sealants), basic (fillings), and major (crowns, bridges, etc). Each plan has a specified maximum limit, and once that limit is reached the insurance company will not pay towards anymore dental treatment until the policy renews. If you require treatment beyond the maximum that your insurance will pay, our doctors will evaluate your dental health issue and give you an honest opinion on wether treatment can be postponed until the policy renews, or if it is in your best interest to receive treatment as soon as possible. Some issues, if not addressed promptly, can rapidly worsen and end up costing the patient more in the long run. Should you find yourself in a situation that cannot be postponed until policy renewal, we offer a variety of payment options to assist you in getting the care you need sooner rather than later.
Our office will provide you with an estimate of your patient portion (copay) that is expected at the time of service, and we will submit insurance claims on your behalf. On average it takes 3-6 weeks to receive payment. Your insurance company typically provides you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) detailing how the claim was processed. Note that in some cases the insurance company may not pay anything based on provisions in your contract. Once we have received payment from your insurance company we will provide you with a statement summarizing any remaining balance you may be responsible for. In the event your insurance company denies payment for any reason, you will be responsible for all charges incurred for your care.
If you have any questions regarding your insurance policy, you may consult your insurance carrier or employer. We would also be happy to look into your policy and help you better understand your benefits.
